The base is crafted by hand, one by one, using handmade washi paper made from materials such as ancient documents. Its warm, soft form and the way its head sways gently when touched make it impossible not to grow attached to it just by looking at it.

◯ About Mitoyo Papier-mâché
A papier-mâché workshop in Mitoyo City, Kagawa Prefecture, has been crafting papier-mâché tigers since Meiji 30, and in Showa 61, they were designated as a Traditional Craft of Kagawa Prefecture. Through continuous refinement of materials and techniques, and by performing every step by hand, the artisans strive to create “sturdy tigers that will be cherished for generations.”
Prized since ancient times as decorations for the Boys’ Festival and the Hassaku Festival, these tigers symbolize wishes for children’s healthy growth. They are also popular as regional toys, gifts for birthdays and new homes, and as good-luck charms for business prosperity.
