Wasanbon on a nice day

"Come on, let's have some tea."

A warm portrait of everyday life, in which you can almost hear those voices.

It's just an ordinary scene, but for some reason it makes me feel very happy and fond. It's a mysterious piece that makes me feel that way.

Currently, HIYORI employs three photographers.

This time we spoke with Yuko Shimada of Studio Suyasuya, who took these photos. She captures a variety of people, things, and landscapes from her unique perspective.

Turning "personalized photography" into a job

Shimada was born in Osaka Prefecture in 1985. He first encountered cameras when he was a high school student and went on to a vocational school for photography. After graduating, he worked at an advertising photo studio for six years and another photo studio for four years before going independent as a photographer in 2018.

"I experienced the hardships of doing what I love as a job in my 20s. But as I met photographers and designers who shared my passion, I gradually gained confidence and decided to go independent."

His working style involves carefully listening to the image his client has in mind, discussing it with him and then creating a satisfactory photograph.

"When I take photographs, I search for the intersection between my job of responding to customer orders and my own self-expression. It's easy to separate the two, but I believe it's possible to have both."

A series of works launched together with stylist Akiko Niwa

Sandwich Table is a social media account that was started because the creator "loves sandwiches so much," and it simply records the sandwiches he eats every day with a few words and simple photos.

"People often ask me how I take photos, but I don't really know myself.

However, I don't think that a good photo is a well-organized, well-done photo, so I try to take photos that move me at the moment I take them."

Sandwich Table Exhibition

This is a record of the love he has for sandwiches that he has continued to create steadily. After that, he held an exhibition at three galleries in Osaka and Tokyo.

Kamome Sambon's filming story

Seagull Sambon

Kamome Sambon has a fresh, crunchy texture and the flavor of Setouchi lemon. This photo was also taken by Shimada-san.

We all contributed ideas and came up with this piece.

"It's really impressive how HIYORI's presence is so apparent in each product. Everyone involved in the planning was overflowing with a desire to do it. And it's amazing that they actually went ahead and did it."

Shimada-san's presence is clearly evident in the photographs!

The photographer was as true to his feelings as a lone seagull that has separated from the flock and flown away.
