Marugame Uchiwa setouchi-night
Marugame Uchiwa(Japanese round fan) made of HIYORI's original fabric dyed with Awa indigo. Mini oval-shaped Uchiwa that are easy to carry are handcrafted one by one by traditional craftsman Keiko Hyodo. Only about 10% of Marugame Uchiwa production is traditional bamboo fans. Furthermore,only a few percent of the products are made in Marugame, Kagawa Prefecture, from the collection of materials to processing, making them extremely valuable. In the coming season,it can be used as a tool for enjoying your time at home,or as a fashion item that you can put in your bag and enjoy the coolness of summer. 〇Marugame Uchiwa
"Marugame Uchiwa" started as a souvenir for visiting Konpira in the Edo period,and was recommended by the Kyogoku Clan at that time as a side job for samurai, it developed into a representative local industry of Marugame,It was designated as a national traditional craft in May 1997. Marugame, where many uchiwa-making craftsmen used to live, uchiwa-making orders came in from all over the country, and the uniqueness of Uchiwa from each production area was combined. As a result, Marugame Uchiwa, which has acquired many features, now boasts 90% of the domestic market share and is Japan's largest in terms of production volume and variety of shapes.
〇Awa indigo
“Watanabeʼs” is a brand created by Kenta Watanabe, an indigo artist and dyer. Based in Kamiita-cho,Tokushima Prefecture,known as Awa Ai indigo,the company engages in the entire process of indigo cultivation,dye-making (Sukumo),dyeing and production. The indigo color is created using a traditional Japanese technique, ''天然灰汁発酵建て(natural lye fermentation technique) '' is based on dye-making (Sukumo) that is made by drying and fermenting the leaves of the plants called "Tade Ai". It has beautiful deep,brilliant colors and difficult to color shift. While preserving the good old Japanese tradition, he will work widely in Japan and overseas to convey indigo with new perspective.
The patterned paper is created in the image of the calm waves and the sun of Setouchi, and after applying glue, it is dyed with Awa indigo. If the number of times to be dyed is less, it will be lighter color,and the color darkens as it is layered.
